Westby Cooperative Creamery Employee Profile

Name: Krissa Myhre

Years with Westby: 14

Position: Customer Service Representative

Hello. I'm Krissa Myhre, and I work as a Customer Service Representative in the General Office and Distribution Center of Westby Cooperative Creamery, which is located about one mile northwest of our Creamery manufacturing facility in downtown Westby. This new building opened in 2012, and is a very nice working environment.

I was born and raised in De Soto, Wisconsin, which is along the Mississippi River, southwest of Westby. You can't grow up in this area and not know about Westby Cooperative Creamery. We've been in business for over 111 years; so, everyone in this area is well aware of our long history, and connected in some way. Many families, including mine through my grandparents, have farmed in this area for generations. I like being connected to that history, and being part of a great group of people that are proud of our past and working hard towards the future.

After High School, I worked in service and administrative jobs for businesses in Viroqua, while always keeping any eye on job openings at Westby Creamery. When I finally heard of an opening, I applied immediately and was hired as a Customer Service Representative. That was fourteen years ago, and a lot of positive things have happened over those years.

I mentioned our new Distribution Center and Offices. We needed this new facility because our business has been growing. In the fourteen years that I've been here, we've more than tripled in total revenues. We have more Patron-Members, our family dairy farm owners; now at around 175. These member-owners are delivering more milk to our Creamery, and we're producing more dairy food products like cottage cheeses, sour creams, dairy dips, yogurts, and hard cheeses, than ever.

And that's where my job begins, processing customer orders for products to be manufactured. Most of these orders come in via e-mail, and some by telephone. I confirm and then enter those orders into our computer systems, and send that information to a Production Supervisor at the Creamery to plan and schedule product production. The time from order placement, through production, and then product shipment from the Creamery to the Distribution Center for customer pickup, is usually about ten to fourteen days.

I track the product order through this process, and then prepare the bills-of-lading and other documentation before the customer order is picked up by a refrigerated transportation truck. On any day we'll have from fifteen to eighteen trucks making pickups or deliveries at our Distribution Center. The first trucks arrive at around 6:00am each day. This means my work day starts early, just as it does for our many Patrons working on their farms and milking their dairy cows. I'm in the office on Mondays-to-Fridays at 5:30am, and leave at 2:00pm.

But, I'm not alone; because there are others working at this same time; including production workers at the Creamery, shipping and receiving personnel at the Distribution Center, and others in our Administration offices serving our many customers, suppliers, and member-owners. And that's what I like most about my job, working with a great team of people. I'm not bound to my desk during the day, or only doing computer data entry, or just answering the telephone. I get to do a variety of things, knowing that I'm part of the team at Westby Cooperative Creamery.

And, like everyone else here, I get a real kick out of seeing one of our branded products in a local grocery store; or, knowing that we manufactured other brands of products for our Private Label or Food Service customers; or, an ingredient used to make other food products. We manufacture and ship about 27-million pounds of dairy food products each year, all made from the milk of our Patron-Member-Owners.

Remember, when you -- take home country goodness from the family dairy farms of Westby Cooperative Creamery - you take home country goodness from me -- Krissa Myhre.

And for that, we all say THANKS!
